A new journey for Stars in Transition

A new journey for Stars in Transition

It’s been a while since I last posted, but time is not on my side at this point. What I did however decide to do is take you on a journey of my latest project. About two weeks ago, I was approached to re-design the Stars in Transition website, so I decided to do a running post series on this site to show how the project progresses and how things changed from the old site to the new one.

When it comes to websites I am almost always adamant to use WordPress and to date every site I have designed over the past 5 years has been built on WordPress, including eCommerse sites. This project is no different, WordPress will be my tool of choice, it’s easy to use, easy to design for, but most importantly, it’s easy for clients to use.

So lets look at what the original site looked like:

Original starsintransition.com website

I took the screenshot of this site in Google Chrome, hence why the navigation menu looks a bit odd, in Internet Explorer however the site looks fins. My bigges problem with the original site is not the layout, but the colours and more particularly the bright yellow used for the content area. Bright colours make content difficult to read, so that’s the first ting to go.

The other thing that also caught my attention is the fact that there is not really enough content on the home page and this makes it pretty static. One little trick I learned is to build a site, but imagine there is no navigation, so essentially everything has to be navigated using content only. Sound pretty stupid, but it works. So to start off the first thing I will be tackling is the home page, I need to make it more content friendly and functional while maintaining easy readability.

Right, so in the next post I will fill you in on what my thoughts are for the new home page and how the rest of the site will be attached to it.
