Facebook has it’s good uses and users
FYI: This is just a short little post based on a few thoughts.
For those that know me personally will know that I have a pretty bad love hate relationship with Facebook. I’m not one of those folks that updates constantly about what I’m doing or how my day is and, and, and… I’m not saying there is anything wrong with it, it’s just not me. Most of the things I find on Facebook are… well… pretty useless and a waste of time, like these pages with epic long titles that you can like but has no real purpose.
One feature that Facebook has is suggesting friends or pages that your friends are subscribed to… this is one of the features that can actually be usefull. After reading a message from a friend I glanced over at the “friends you may know” area and saw “Skinderbekkies Van Port Elizabeth“. My first thought was; Oh great, another one, none the less curiosity got the best of me and I decided to have a look and what I found was actually pretty surprising. Here was a page where people actually communicated properly, give advice and comments that are actually on topic and is not flooded with a bunch of sh#t.
So what are you on about and what has this got to do with anything?
Well, this page got me thinking about what companies are doing with Facebook and other social platforms. Most companies use social media sites to communicate new products or services, competition announcements so on and so forth. Some TRY and communicate with their client base by asking dumb questions, like “What’s your favorite cartoon character”. I can understand that companies do not want to get TOO personal on social platforms, but, if they do decide to engage their clients on social platforms they should do it properly, they should respond (even if just to one comment).
