SEO Myth 6 – I Need Only Optimise my Home Page for Keywords

You can and should optimise every page on your site. A common mistake made by many is only optimising the landing page, this is a bad move. For example, if you have a website that sells a product or delivers a service you have to not only optimise the index (also reffered to as the home or landing page) but also the page where the content of the product or service is located, after all this is where you want your visitor to go to, so why not just send them there directly when they do a search.

Let’s quickly take an engineering company as an example. You have your website with the navigation pointing to Home, About us, Services, Contact. Now already you have 3 important pages to look at, Home, About Us and Services but most importantly, Services. This is the primary focus as it is no doubt what the user was looking for. The services page will also contain most of your keywords in this case. The aim at the end of the day is for your whole site to be indexed and not just one page.

I follow the the same rule with SA-SEO. I optimised all the pages and continue to do so in order to have optimal relevancy and visibility in search engines. You can see the results of optimising all my pages here. Also have a look at MyPE.co.za’s index.

Remember that your content is key. Use relevant and original content, this is what search engines look for.

Tip: To see how many pages of your site are indexed go to Google and type in “site:your site url”. Eg. Site:www.sao-seo.co.za.
