SEO Myth 9 – Only Work with Companies That Give you a Guarantee
Guarantees would be nice if they were worth the paper they are printed on. In fact, most guarantees from SEO firms have the same fine print in them, as long as they get one of your keywords to the top of any major search engines, they have fulfilled their end of the agreement (yeah right!). It’s easy to be number one for terms that no one else is competing for.
Let’s say you are a engineering company in Port Elizabeth and your main function is CNC machining but you also do general sheet metal work. Your main keyword phrase would be “engineering Port Elizabeth” and that is the phrase you want to be found under. You also use “sheet metal work Port Elizabeth” as a keyword phrase but the term is too generic and you do not want to focus on it.
Now you approach a SEO firm that promises a guarantee and after a couple of months you notice that you are getting found under “sheet metal work Port Elizabeth” and not under “engineering Port Elizabeth“. Your first reaction and question to the firm would be, “why?” First of all the words “engineering” and “Port Elizabeth” are two very competitive keywords in the local market and the words “sheet metal work are not nearly as competitive. It would be much easier and less work for the SEO firm to get listed well under “sheet metal work” And they will simply say “But you are on top 10, what more do you want us to do.
